Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) recently witnessed a momentous occasion as 121 newly inducted nurses from the Department of Nursing Science were celebrated during an induction and oath-taking ceremony at the Okofia campus in Nnewi. The event was graced by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu, FAMed, who extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates.

In his address, Professor Ikechebelu emphasized the significance of the new nurses serving as exemplary ambassadors of the university. He outlined his administration’s short-term goals encapsulated in the “BLEDS” targets, aiming to enhance various aspects of UNIZIK's infrastructure and academic environment. Notably, within a brief period of assuming office, his administration resolved a three-week blackout, underscoring its commitment to swift action and efficiency.

Furthermore, Professor Ikechebelu expressed his dedication to supporting the Department of Nursing Science in achieving excellence, including plans for the renovation of Chukwuneke hostel to accommodate more students. He reiterated the importance of securing endowments, particularly for hostel accommodations, to cater to the growing needs of the university community.

The event also witnessed commendations from distinguished guests, including the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Gerald Udigwe, who lauded Professor Ikechebelu's leadership and assured continued support from the college. Additionally, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor M.J. Nwankwo, highlighted the faculty’s needs, underscoring the collaborative efforts towards academic advancement.

Dr. J.E Anieche, the Acting Head of the Department of Nursing Science, applauded the department's consistent academic excellence and congratulated the new nurses on their achievements. The Registrar of the Nursing Registration Council, Mrs. Stella Godswill, emphasized the importance of adhering to ethical standards in the nursing profession, while guest lecturer Dr. Georgian Ibeneme encouraged continuous professional development among the nurses.
