UNN Bans Social Events After 6PM Following Fatal Stabbing Incident On Campus
UNN has officially banned all social and entertainment activities on campus extending beyond 6:00 p.m., following the tragic death of Enugu-based auto dealer, Michael Nweze, popularly known as PowerAutos.
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has officially banned all social and entertainment activities on campus extending beyond 6:00 p.m., following the tragic death of Enugu-based auto dealer, Michael Nweze, popularly known as PowerAutos.

The decision, announced in a statement by the university management on Monday, comes in response to the violent clash that erupted during a student-hosted bonfire event, which led to Nweze being fatally stabbed.
According to earlier reports by Myschoolnews, the tragedy unfolded on Friday, September 12, near the Archaeology Department, opposite the UBA Hall of Fame, during a Faculty of Arts bonfire.

Eyewitnesses said Nweze had attended the event with friends when his Mercedes-Benz GLK allegedly scratched another vehicle while he tried to drive out. Although campus security initially intervened and defused tensions, the situation escalated after Nweze left the venue.
As he and his companions were heading out through the Odenigwe Gate, they were ambushed by a group of armed assailants in three vehicles. While his friends fled, Nweze confronted the attackers and was stabbed fatally in the neck. He died on the spot.
Security officials quickly intercepted the suspects at the gate. Four individuals including one UNN student are currently in custody. Unconfirmed reports suggest the attack may be linked to a cult-related dispute, but police have yet to issue an official statement. The case has since been transferred to the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the directive of the Commissioner of Police.
In its Monday announcement made available to Myschoolnews, the university emphasized that the safety of its students and the need to maintain peace on campus remain its top priority.
“Effective immediately, no social or entertainment event will be permitted to continue past 6:00 p.m., whether within or around the school premises,” the statement read.
The restriction has drawn divided reactions among students and stakeholders. While some commend the administration’s quick response, others fear the decision may negatively impact campus life and cultural activities traditionally held in the evenings.
For now, UNN remains under tight security watch as investigations continue and the community mourns the loss of a well-known entrepreneur whose life was cut short in the violence.
