The recent Virtual Conference and National Inter-University Competition on Green Chemistry (VCNIUC) 2024, organized by MoreGreen Plus and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, gathered some of Nigeria's brightest minds to advance innovative solutions and promote sustainability in Green Chemistry.

Under the theme "Innovating with Green Chemistry in the 21st Century," the five-day virtual event attracted 952 registered participants from over 35 universities within and outside Nigeria. Funded by the Green Chemistry Education Challenge award won by Drs. Oyesolape Basirat Akinsipo and Oluwaseun Hannah Anselm, the conference provided a platform for students, academics, and industry professionals to share knowledge, network, and promote environmental stewardship.

Keynote speakers included:

  • Professor Enoch Olugbenga Dare from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, who discussed "Green Chemistry, Nanotechnology and Circular Economy as a Nexus towards a Sustainable Future."
  • Professor Agbaje Lateef from the Department of Microbiology, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, who spoke on "From Lab to Market: Nanotechnology Innovations."
  • Associate Professor Temilola Oluseyi, who delivered insights on "Green Chemistry and Global Health: Creating a Safer and Cleaner Future."

In his welcome address, TASUED Vice Chancellor Professor Oluwole Banjo emphasized the importance of green chemistry in tackling environmental pollution and climate change, highlighting its role in creating a sustainable future.

The VCNIUC 2024 aimed to inspire future leaders and innovators dedicated to environmental sustainability, providing a significant opportunity for participants to engage with cutting-edge research and practical applications in green chemistry.
