“We Have Settled Over ₦2 Billion in Liabilities,” Says NSUK VC as Committee Submits Report to Gov. Sule

The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has disclosed that the University, through internal reforms and prudent management, has successfully settled liabilities amounting to over ₦2 billion.

Professor Liman made this known on Wednesday, 14th January 2026, while presenting the report of the Joint State Government and University Committee on NSUK Liabilities to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, at the Government House, Lafia.

She explained that the liabilities settled covered the payment of gratuities, earned allowances, statutory deductions, outstanding severance allowances, as well as support for academic advancement.

The Vice-Chancellor further revealed that the University’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) increased from ₦5 billion in 2024 to over ₦7 billion in 2025, attributing the growth to the blockage of financial leakages and strict adherence to financial prudence by the University management.

Professor Liman also commended the Nasarawa State Government for its support, noting that the Committee facilitated a successful dialogue between the University management and the Joint Action Congress (JAC). This engagement led to the implementation of the 25% and 35% salary increments for University staff, as well as the approval and implementation of the ₦70,000 National Minimum Wage by the Visitor to the University, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, stated that the Committee was constituted following the University’s request for government intervention over financial challenges and accumulated liabilities.

Dr. Akabe noted that Governor Sule, in his wisdom, set up the Committee to develop practical recommendations aimed at providing holistic solutions to the University’s financial challenges. He added that the Committee met over ten times between September 2024 and August 2025 in the course of its assignment.

In his response, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule thanked members of the Committee for their dedication and thorough work, assuring that the State Government would carefully study the report with a view to giving it a consideration.

The Committee comprises the Vice-Chancellor, Commissioners for Education, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, the State Accountant-General, Executive Chairman of NSIRS, the University Bursar, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, who served as Secretary, with the Registrar of the University as Alternate Secretary.

Others in the Committee include Professor S. A. S. Aruwa, Mr. Thomas Akwaden, and Dr. John Danladi Efuna.
