Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) and the Department of State Services (DSS) have joined forces to bolster security measures within the foremost tertiary institution in Nigeria. This collaborative effort was solidified during a courtesy visit by the Rector of Yabatech, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul, accompanied by other college principal officers, to the new State Director of the Department of State Services, Mr. Adedapo Amao, and his management team.

Dr. Abdul, in his address, emphasized the need for cooperation between Yabatech and the State Services to address security challenges facing the college. These challenges, he outlined, include cyber threats, financial scams targeting parents paying school fees, involvement in cult activities, and impersonation of authorities for criminal purposes.

Highlighting the unity among college principal officers and the harmonious relationship with stakeholders, Dr. Abdul underscored his administration's commitment to maintaining an uninterrupted academic calendar over five years, ensuring students' graduation timelines align with global best practices.

Expressing concerns over external forces disrupting the peace and unity of the institution, Dr. Abdul sought the support and expertise of the DSS to fulfill the college's mandate. He emphasized the DSS's mission to safeguard the Federal Republic of Nigeria against domestic threats and enforce criminal laws.

In response, Mr. Adedapo Amao, the new Director of the DSS, assured Yabatech's management of the agency's full support in securing lives and properties within the college premises. He urged the college to conduct a comprehensive assessment of its vulnerabilities, share intelligence with the DSS, and remain resolute in combating crime.

Mr. Amao acknowledged the prevalence of criminal activities in higher institutions across the country, emphasizing the collective responsibility to address cultism and other forms of crime. He stressed the importance of collaboration in tackling security challenges effectively.

Attendees at the event included Mr. Sikiru Balogun, Assistant Director of Security Enforcement; Mrs. Olufunmilayo Akinlayo, Assistant Director of Administration and Logistics; Mr. Sheu Sheu, Assistant Director of Operations; and Aduke Ogbe, Assistant Director of Vetting, from the DSS. Representatives from Yabatech included Mr. Uduak Iyang Udoh, Deputy Rector of Administration; Dr. Emmanuel Akinwale, Acting Registrar; Mrs. Henrietta Badejo, Personal Assistant to the Rector; and Mr. Adekunle Adams, Deputy Registrar of the Centre for Information Communication and Public Relations.
