UNILORIN SSANU, NASU Members Commence Seven-Day Strike

Activities at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, have been disrupted as members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) commenced a seven-day strike on Monday. The strike action, in compliance with directives from the national bodies of the two unions, seeks to address what members perceive as unfair treatment and salary disparities by the Federal Government.

According to reports gathered by our correspondent, members of SSANU and NASU first convened at the university gate for a congress before dispersing to their respective homes, marking a total compliance with the strike directive. The chairman of NASU at the University of Ilorin, Zuberu Ibrahim, affirmed the success of the strike, emphasizing the complete adherence of members to the national body's directive.

In response to inquiries, the Public Relations Officer of SSANU in the University, Segun Alabi, corroborated the total compliance of members with the strike. He noted that members promptly dispersed to their homes following the congress held at the university gate early on Monday.

However, despite the strike, academic activities, particularly ongoing student examinations, continued unabated at the institution. This was facilitated by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, which assumed control to prevent any disruptions to the examination process.

The university's Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed that the ongoing examinations remained unaffected by the strike action. He assured stakeholders that special arrangements had been made to ensure the seamless continuation of academic activities during the period of the strike.
