Years After Making History as First Muslim Head Boy, Man Emerges Best Graduating Student of Statistics
Abdulrazaq Faheez Olanrewaju, Abdulrasaq Faheez Olanrewaju, has graduated with First Class Honours from the Department of Statistics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), earning a CGPA of 4.68 and emerging as the Best Graduating Student of Statistics for the 2025 graduating set.
Across FUNAAB, Faheez is not remembered only for grades, but for people. Long before convocation, he had become a dependable academic pillar to many students—one who taught, explained, repeated, and stayed back so others would not fail.
Reflecting on this, one of his friends recalls their early academic encounters:
“I can never forget the STS and CHM tutorials you took us, just for us not to fail. As you are looking at him, he’s a First Class graduate of Statistics. Leadership was never an excuse for failure to him.”
Beyond personal excellence, Faheez served as Team Lead (Academic Special) at Campus Radar during the 2024/2025 session, contributing to academic-focused content and student-centered conversations. His approach mirrored how many knew him: calm, deliberate, and impact-driven.
Within the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), FUNAAB Chapter, Faheez served two terms as Director of Studies (DOS). Despite the workload, he maintained academic excellence. Naheem, one of those he taught, described him as both mentor and brother:
“Even though I’m his teacher at the Madrasah, he is my academic tutor. What humbles me most is his selfless nature—he always came down to my hostel just to teach me.”
Faheez’s leadership also extended to his department. He served as President of the Association of Statistics Students (ASSON), FUNAAB (2024/2025), where he balanced academics with student development. He also coached the ASSON football team, leading them to win several medals—showing that excellence, for him, was not one-dimensional.
Academically, his brilliance showed early. He won the Best Student of Statistics Prize in his 100-level, later became a beneficiary of the FUNAABSU @33 Scholarship, ASUU-FUNAAB Scholarship, and ultimately graduated as the Best Student of Statistics.
Chosen, one of his classmates, summed up his impact simply:
“This man laboured so much over us. God bless you, Leader.”
What makes Faheez’s journey particularly remarkable is that his record of “firsts” did not begin at FUNAAB. According to Nurudeen, a secondary school mate:
“Faheez was the first Muslim Head Boy my school ever had in about 27 years of existence. If you attended School of Science, Pade, you’ll know what that means.”
That early leadership would later reflect in university life—quietly consistent, principled, and service-oriented.
Many students credit their survival in difficult Statistics courses to him. Anchorman, a departmental colleague, described him as:
“Our one and only First Class student of the Department of Statistics. What a humble and gentle soul.”
Others remember the sacrifices he made behind the scenes. Hameedah wrote:
“Thank you for going to meetings on our behalf. I am proud to call you my friend.”
When asked about his guiding principle, Faheez keeps it simple: “Just try.” That mindset—trying again, showing up, and staying consistent—has defined his journey more than any dramatic moment.
Looking ahead, Abdulrazaq Faheez Olanrewaju intends to pursue a career in Data Science, building on his strong statistical foundation and analytical depth.
From being the first Muslim Head Boy of his secondary school to becoming a campus tutor, student leader, First Class graduate, and Best Graduating Student of Statistics, Faheez’s story is one of quiet excellence and lasting impact. It is proof that leadership, service, and academic success can coexist—and thrive—when discipline meets purpose.
