FUTMinna Students’ Union Clarifies NELFUND Disbursement and Fee Refund Process

The Students’ Union Government wishes to clarify ongoing concerns and questions regarding the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), fee payments, and refunds.

We want to reassure the student body that the University Management, in collaboration with relevant authorities, has done its best to ensure that students benefit from NELFUND. Our institution operates a reliable system with a good track record in handling NELFUND disbursements.

Students who applied for NELFUND in July 2025 for the 2024/2025 academic session should note that the funds disbursed at that time were returned to NELFUND because the academic session had already been covered. This does not mean the student lost the loan benefit; rather, the payment was no longer required for that session.

Due to delays in the academic calendar, NELFUND payments were adjusted and replaced to match the correct academic session where applicable.

Students who personally paid their school fees and were later disbursed NELFUND, the school refunds the amount personally paid, while NELFUND replaces that payment. This process prevents double payment for the same academic session.

Students who received double disbursement for a session, the excess funds have been or will be refunded back to NELFUND, in line with financial regulations.

Students yet to receive their refunds after personal payment of fees are advised to submit an official refund request letter to the school for processing.

NELFUND has extended the application deadline to 27th February, giving more students the opportunity to apply and benefit.
