According to the management, Hameedat's suicide was attributed to financial pressures stemming from the Snapchat acquaintance's demands for swift repayment. Coupled with her brother's inability to provide financial assistance, this situation reportedly led to her experiencing depression.
The statement from the hostel management read: "The cause of Suicide was traced to financial misappropriation. She was entrusted with a significant sum of money by her mother. She crossed paths with a guy on Snapchat and developed a friendship. When the boy claimed that his mother was battling breast cancer and urgently needed N500,000, the compassionate and emotional lady decided to help him by lending him half of the N1 million she held for her mother, with the boy promising to repay the borrowed money. However, when her mother needed the money back, the boy abruptly cut off all contact, leaving her deeply troubled."

In an attempt to repay the missing N500,000, Hameedat resorted to borrowing money from various mobile apps, accumulating N450,000 from these sources and using her savings of N50,000 to make up the remaining balance.
Tragically, Hameedat ingested a lethal pesticide known as Sniper on the night before her demise. Her roommate, whose identity remains undisclosed, discovered her in distress, foaming from her mouth, and vomiting in the middle of the night. The roommate promptly sought help, and Hameedat was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) but was ultimately declared dead.
