Anambra State Gears Up for 2024 School Sports Festival
Anambra State prepares for the upcoming 2024 School Sports Festival with the inauguration of the organizing committee, promising a showcase of athletic talent across various disciplines.
The 2024 edition of the Anambra School Sports Festival is slated to commence from April 17 to May 24, announced Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Commission, Patrick-Estate Onyedum. The announcement came during the inauguration of the 18-man School Sports Festival Main Organizing Committee in Awka.
Twelve sporting events have been selected for the festival, which will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The competition will be divided into three categories: U12 for primary schools, U14 for junior secondary schools, and U18 for senior secondary schools.
Approved games for the festival include Athletics, Football, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Ncho, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Scrabble, Tennis, Volleyball, and Swimming.

Registration and submission of forms are scheduled to take place from March 11 to April 8, with competitions starting from the Local Government Areas and progressing through the Senatorial Districts to the State finals.

Chairman Onyedum highlighted the significance of the school sports festival, which was reintroduced in 2023 after a decade. He praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo's commitment to sports development, citing the success of the previous edition and expressing optimism for an even better event this year.
The festival aims not only to promote sports but also to discover and nurture talents that can represent the state at national and international levels. The successful hosting of the previous edition underscores the state government's dedication to youth empowerment through sports.
With preparations underway and enthusiastic participation expected, all eyes are on Anambra State as it gears up for yet another exciting edition of the School Sports Festival.
