In a bid to revolutionize agricultural education and ignite a passion for farming among students, the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) has unveiled the Agricultural Educational Training Programme (AETP). This pioneering initiative, a collaboration between ASUBEB and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), aims to provide practical training in agriculture to select pilot schools across the state.

The inaugural ceremony, held at the Utility Hall of ASUBEB in Awka, saw the participation of head teachers, principals, and other key stakeholders in the education sector. The program features hands-on sessions covering various aspects of agriculture, including crop farming, poultry farming, and fishery.

Professor Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, emphasized the importance of practical-oriented agricultural education in fostering entrepreneurship among learners. She highlighted Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo's commitment to agricultural development in Anambra State, citing initiatives such as the distribution of palm and coconut seedlings to households to boost income generation.

The training program aims not only to impart practical skills but also to instill a sense of dignity in labor and promote sustainable farming practices. Participants were encouraged to integrate the knowledge gained into their respective schools' curricula, with plans for the introduction of agricultural quizzes to further engage students.

Mrs. Ngozi Enendu, Director of the Department of Academic Services, outlined the program's structure, emphasizing active student involvement from cultivation to harvest. The enterprise component ensures that proceeds generated are reinvested to sustain the project within schools.

The ASUBEB Agric Desk Officer, Mrs. Kate Oguejiofor, highlighted the initiative's focus on nurturing a generation of young farmers, aiming to make agriculture a viable source of livelihood from an early age.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Board Secretary Mrs. Loveline Mgbemena, Honorable Ifeyinwa Anatune, Lady Theresa Azodo, Lady Stella Ezepue, and other education officials.

The launch of the AETP marks a significant step towards promoting agricultural education and empowering the youth to contribute to the agricultural sector's growth and development in Anambra State.
