Abia State Commissioner Urges Pupils to Embrace Anti-Corruption Values

In a proactive move towards instilling ethical values in the younger generation, the Commissioner for Education in Abia State, Prof. Uche Eme-Uche, has launched the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Students Anti-Corruption Club in Abia State Schools.

During the inauguration ceremony held at Ibeku High School, Umuahia, Prof. Uche Eme-Uche emphasized the importance of shunning corrupt practices, which she identified as truancy, disobedience to teachers and parents, examination malpractices, and refusal to follow school guidelines. She underscored the detrimental impact such practices could have on the future of students.

Addressing the pupils, Prof. Eme-Uche urged them to prioritize their studies and commit to passing examinations without engaging in malpractices. She asserted that Abia State is committed to eradicating examination malpractices, and the establishment of the ICPC Students Anti-Corruption Club is a significant step towards achieving this goal.

Representing the commissioner, Hope Nwosu, the Director of Secondary Technical and Higher Education in the Ministry of Education, echoed the commissioner's sentiments and commended the students for their decision to join the club.

The inauguration ceremony featured speeches from Peter Alumbugu, the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Imo and Abia, and Chinwe Egbeocha, an ICPC Assistant Commissioner in Imo. Both emphasized the destructive nature of corruption and the importance of cultivating disciplined lives among students.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, including Juliet Kylie of St. Theresa’s Girls’ School and Master Chukwuemeka Kalu of the Winning Youth Christian Academy, who expressed their commitment to combatting corruption and fostering positive change in society.

The launch of the ICPC Students Anti-Corruption Club marks a significant milestone in Abia State's efforts to promote integrity and accountability among its youth, setting a precedent for other regions to follow suit in the fight against corruption.
