Australia Reduces Nigerian Students’ Visas by 75% Amid Draconian Immigration Policy

The Australian government has significantly reduced the approval rate for Nigerian students' visa applications by 75% since implementing stricter immigration policies in late 2023. According to ICEF Monitor, official statistics show that only 25.6% of Nigerian offshore higher education visa applications were approved in the fourth quarter of 2023, compared to 67% in the second quarter of the same year.

ICEF Monitor’s report indicates that the disapproval rate for student visa applicants from Nigeria could be even higher. This prompted an Australian school with multiple locations to suspend offshore admissions for Nigerian and Pakistani applicants.
