Bayelsa Governor Approves Employment for 12 Newly Trained Special Education Teachers

The Bayelsa State government has offered employment to 12 graduates in special needs education from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt.

Governor Douye Diri made this announcement on Tuesday during a reception for the graduates at the Government House in Yenagoa. The delegation was led by the Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah, and the Executive Secretary of the Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF), Alice Atuwo.

Governor Diri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to training teachers for children with special needs, expressing satisfaction with the state's investment in the initiative. He noted that the teachers would be employed immediately, as they are the first set to be trained in this sector.

“I am pleased with our investment in special education training. These teachers will help impart knowledge to children with impairments in the state,” Diri said.

The governor also reiterated the state’s commitment to providing free tuition, feeding, and uniforms for special needs schools, as well as for science and technical colleges across Bayelsa.

Ms Atuwo revealed that 15 teachers from Bayelsa were enrolled in the special education program, but 12 successfully completed the five-year training.
