BUK Centre for Gender Studies Strengthens Mandate to Deliver Best Practices
The Centre for Gender Studies (CGS) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing gender-related initiatives by renewing its mandate and enhancing its human resource capacity.
The Director of the Centre, Dr. Ambassador Safiya Nuhu, made this known on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas.
She expressed gratitude to the University Management for approving the appointment of Deputy Directors to the Centre and used the occasion to brief the Vice-Chancellor on CGS’s revitalized vision and strategic initiatives.
Dr. Nuhu emphasized that the new appointments signify the University’s shared commitment to addressing pressing societal challenges through gender-focused research and community engagement. She also disclosed that the Centre would be marking its 10th anniversary in 2025 and has intensified efforts in training programmes, research, collaborations, and impactful projects.
One notable partnership is the “Knowledge for Change” initiative, a collaborative effort with universities in Canada and Uganda aimed at addressing gender-based issues through research and capacity building.
