BUK Centre for Research in Nigerian Languages Launches Landmark Book

The Centre for Research in Nigerian Languages, Translation, and Folklore at Bayero University Kano (BUK) has launched a scholarly publication titled "A Book of Readings in Hausa Semantics." The event, which took place on June 17, 2025, was attended by distinguished scholars and guests.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, described the occasion as a celebration of knowledge, culture, and identity. He emphasized the importance of semantics in linguistic study, highlighting its role in understanding meaning, interpretation, and cultural depth.

The Director of the Centre, Professor Yakubu Magaji Azare, welcomed attendees and reflected on the Centre's journey and achievements. These include hosting the 2nd International Kanuri Day, celebrating Nupe Day, digitizing century-old journals and books, and strengthening academic collaborations with institutions such as the University of China and the University of London.

The Vice-Chancellor outlined the Centre's role in deepening theoretical and applied research, promoting indigenous languages, driving translation and knowledge transfer, elevating folklore as intellectual heritage, and shaping policy and curriculum. He commended the authors for their contribution to scholarship and indigenous language development.
