In alignment with its guiding philosophy of Values, Viability, and Visibility, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has commenced the interview stage for promotion assessments to the Professorial Cadre — a key reform initiative under the administration of Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Vice-Chancellor.

The new process reflects COOU’s evolving academic standards, ensuring that promotion to the ranks of Reader and Professor is based not only on scholarly records but also on the ability to “profess with clarity, confidence, and conviction.”
Kicking off the exercise, Dr. Uju Mugbo from the Department of Entrepreneurship became the first candidate to appear before the panel after a successful paper assessment. Her academic work focuses on Entrepreneurial Development and Women in Entrepreneurship, with a track record of advancing entrepreneurship education and women empowerment.
The interview session, chaired by Prof. Omenugha, featured Prof. Ogah of Enugu State University’s Department of Business Administration as the external assessor. In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the process is not a formality but a crucial measure to uphold merit, integrity, and institutional credibility.

“To be a professor in COOU,” she said, “one must not only have produced scholarship but must be able to profess it. This ensures that when a person is announced as a professor of this great university, such a person can stand tall anywhere in the world.”
The initiative underscores COOU’s commitment to developing professors who embody excellence and elevate the university’s reputation globally.

As the academic community awaits the outcome, Dr. Mugbo’s performance stands as an inspiring example of dedication, scholarship, and leadership — values that define COOU as “The Now University and of the Future.”
