Federal University of Education, Zaria VC Tasks Fine and Applied Arts Department with Market-Driven Reforms

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has directed the Department of Fine and Applied Arts to reposition itself through strategic restructuring, innovation, and research-driven initiatives in line with contemporary demands.

Professor Bunkure gave the directive while receiving staff of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, during a courtesy visit led by the Head of Department, Dr. Saleh Rakiya.

He emphasized the need for the Department to align its programmes with current trends and the University’s development agenda, noting that Fine and Applied Arts remains a viable and marketable discipline with significant potential for job creation and entrepreneurship.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Department’s contributions to the aesthetic enhancement of the University, particularly through students’ creative works such as murals and artistic designs displayed across campus facilities.

He further charged Dr. Saleh to provide purposeful leadership that would strengthen the Department’s capacity, expand student enrollment, and foster partnerships capable of enhancing the employability of graduates.

Professor Bunkure also encouraged holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and other related qualifications to take advantage of the Department’s undergraduate programmes, stressing the relevance of creative skills in today’s economy.

Earlier, Dr. Saleh explained that the visit was to formally congratulate the Vice-Chancellor and to brief him on the Department’s academic and creative achievements. She highlighted the role of students’ practical outputs in projecting the Department and contributing to the University’s visual identity.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a portrait of the Vice-Chancellor, produced by a student of the Department, symbolizing the depth of artistic talent and creative capacity within the programme.

The Vice-Chancellor received the delegation alongside the Acting Registrar, Malam Shehu Iya Sa’idu, and the Acting Bursar, Malam Muhammad Kabiru Aliyu.
