Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Inaugurates School of Professional Development with Maiden Matriculation Ceremony
FUTA marked a historic milestone on Friday, November 22, 2024, as it held the maiden matriculation ceremony for its newly established School of Professional Development (SPD). The event, which took place at the T.I. Francis Auditorium welcomed 81 pioneer students across various professional programs.

The event, which took place at the T.I. Francis Auditorium, welcomed 81 pioneer students across various professional programs.
In her address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji emphasized that the SPD was created to advance FUTA's mission of equipping professionals with cutting-edge skills and leadership training tailored to contemporary societal needs. She highlighted the program's focus on innovation, modern technology, and lifelong learning, aimed at enhancing corporate experience and career growth.
“The FUTA SPD is designed to bring students and professionals up to speed with the latest paradigms in their respective fields,” Professor Oladiji said. She encouraged the matriculants to embrace the institution’s values of integrity and professionalism, urging them to serve as FUTA ambassadors in their various spheres of influence.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the efforts of the SPD's pioneer Director, Professor Tolutope Fakokunde, and his team for their dedication in ensuring the successful launch of the program. “Starting a new program is no small feat, and I appreciate the commitment that has brought us to this point,” she noted.
The SPD offers diverse programs, including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Project Management (MPM), Master of Fintech (MFT), Master of Management Science (MMS), and Master of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation (MEB). With plans for additional programs in fields such as supply chain management, structured trade finance, and maritime management, the School aims to cater to professionals seeking specialized training to address modern challenges.
Director of SPD, Professor Fakokunde, expressed his pride in the milestone, stating, “With the matriculation of SPD Course 1, 2024, we are fulfilling a long-awaited need for professional training in Akure and beyond.” He announced that enrollment for SPD Course 1, 2025, will commence in January, with plans underway to introduce professional doctorate programs in collaboration with various departments and organizations.
The Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, administered the matriculation oath, reminding students that their certification will reflect the institution's commitment to "Character and Learning."
Students expressed enthusiasm for the program, praising FUTA's initiative as a timely response to the nation’s professional and developmental needs.
With the SPD officially underway, FUTA reaffirms its position as a leader in fostering innovation and professional excellence in Nigeria.
