Foreign students with low grades risk deportation – UK
The UK Home Secretary, James Cleverly, is reviewing the graduate visa, with concerns that it might be used as a backdoor route for low-skilled jobs or merely as a means to stay in the UK without employment obligations. Over 98,000 students were granted two-year visas after their graduation in June 2023, marking a significant increase.
The United Kingdom Migration Advisory Committee has indicated that foreign students on two-year graduate visas may face deportation if they fail to achieve high grades. This proposal is part of a five-point plan aimed at reducing net migration by 300,000 from record-high levels.

Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman and ex-immigration minister Robert Jenrick have advocated for reforms to the graduate visa, citing concerns about its impact on immigration and potential misuse.
