The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has achieved a significant milestone by ranking first in Nigeria for Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) - Zero Hunger, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking 2024.

The announcement was made by Prof. Adeniyi Olayanju, Chairman of the FUNAAB Committee on SDGs, during a presentation on the Sustainability Strategy Framework at a Review Meeting with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde on Monday, July 15, 2024. The ranking is a testament to FUNAAB’s commitment to addressing global hunger issues through its initiatives and research.

Prof. Olayanju revealed that out of 2,152 universities from 125 countries/regions evaluated, 27 Nigerian institutions were among the finalists. FUNAAB also secured an impressive third place overall in the 2024 rankings. The evaluation process included evidence-based and numeric questions, alongside traditional qualitative data.

The scoring for the rankings involved three key elements: Declaration (university's statement of activities), Evaluation (assessment of evidence provided), and Publication (additional public evidence). Prof. Olayanju emphasized the importance of enhancing visibility on the FUNAAB website and social media to better align with the United Nations’ SDGs.

The presentation was organized by the Directorate of Research, Innovations, and Partnerships (DRIP) and discussed future sustainability strategies to reinforce FUNAAB’s goal of achieving world-class status. The university aims to further integrate its activities with SDGs and enhance its impact in addressing global challenges.
