FUTA Matriculates Over 6,800 Students as Vice-Chancellor Reaffirms Commitment to Excellence

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has formally matriculated newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, reaffirming the University’s unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, training, and research.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has formally matriculated newly admitted undergraduate and postgraduate students for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji, reaffirming the University’s unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, training, and research.

The matriculation ceremony, held on Wednesday, January 22, 2026, saw a total of 6,000 undergraduate students and 821 postgraduate students take the matriculation oath, officially admitting them into various academic programmes of the University.

Addressing the matriculants, Professor Oladiji described their admission as the outcome of a rigorous and highly competitive selection process, urging them to recognise the privilege and responsibility that comes with being students of FUTA. She disclosed that over 20,000 candidates applied for admission into the University, out of which only about 6,000 undergraduates were admitted, noting that nearly half of the applicants were screened out.

She explained that while postgraduate admissions were determined by candidates’ eligibility and availability of supervisors, undergraduate admissions were guided by eligibility requirements and quotas approved for the University and its programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor cautioned the students against engaging in acts capable of undermining their academic pursuits and future, stressing that FUTA maintains a disciplined academic culture with zero tolerance for misconduct. She listed examination malpractice, plagiarism, cultism, sexual harassment, indecent dressing, cybercrime, drug abuse, and other antisocial behaviours as offences that attract severe sanctions.

“By taking the matriculation oath today, you are entering into a solemn covenant with this institution,” she said. “You are pledging to pursue knowledge with integrity and conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of FUTA. Management will not hesitate to deal decisively with any student involved in activities capable of dragging the good name of the University into disrepute.”

Professor Oladiji assured the students of a conducive learning and research environment, particularly for postgraduate programmes, noting that measures were being put in place to reduce dropout rates and programme abandonment. She emphasised that the University’s pursuit of excellence remains continuous, describing excellence as “a never-ending journey, not a destination.”

She further affirmed that FUTA remains an ideal choice for scholarly and technologically inclined students, describing the institution as a centre of excellence in technological education, research, and innovation.

Highlighting the University’s achievements, the Vice-Chancellor noted that FUTA is a research-intensive institution with close to 300 professors across diverse disciplines, a well-equipped Central Laboratory, and strong academic collaborations with reputable local and international universities, as well as government agencies. According to her, these partnerships have significantly enhanced the University’s global visibility.

She concluded by advising students to familiarise themselves with the University’s rules and regulations and to seek guidance from experienced academics and administrators when necessary, while wishing them a successful academic journey.

The matriculation oath was subsequently administered to the students by the Registrar, Mr. Charles Adeleye, marking their formal induction into the FUTA academic community.
