The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has issued a critical safety warning to its students following a series of recent kidnappings along Obinze-Ihiagwa Road, close to the university’s main gate. The university's management has advised students to avoid unnecessary movements in and out of the campus between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. to reduce the risk of falling victim to the criminal elements operating in the area.
This advisory comes in response to heightened security concerns after several abductions have been reported near the university’s entrance. The proximity of these incidents to the campus has prompted the university to take proactive measures to safeguard its students.
In the warning issued, the university emphasized the need for students to remain within the campus during the specified hours and to avoid traveling along Obinze-Ihiagwa Road unless absolutely necessary. This precautionary measure aims to minimize exposure to the ongoing threats and ensure the safety of the student body.
