Godfrey Okoye University VC Urges Fresh Students to Embrace Discipline and Institutional Values

He made this known while addressing newly admitted students on the final day of the institution’s three-day orientation programme held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Convocation Arena, Thinkers’ Corner Campus, Enugu.
Speaking to the fresh students, the Vice-Chancellor outlined the academic, moral, and spiritual expectations of the university, noting that institutional guidelines had been clearly communicated through sessions facilitated by members of the management team. He stressed that adherence to these rules is fundamental to personal development and the creation of a disciplined academic community.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Anieke described admission into the university as a significant achievement, highlighting the institution’s growing national and international recognition for innovation and academic advancement. He encouraged students to align with the university’s vision by engaging in intellectual inquiry, cultural exchange, and constructive religious dialogue as part of their educational experience.
Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Rev. Sis. Prof. Mary Sylvia Nwachukwu, reminded students that dialogue, diligence, and spirituality remain central to the university’s philosophy. She urged strict compliance with the student handbook and dress code, cautioning against examination malpractice and social misconduct that could attract disciplinary sanctions, including suspension or expulsion.
The Chief Security Officer, Mr. Dike Ugorji, underscored the importance of maintaining a safe learning environment and advised students to report suspicious activities promptly. He reiterated the university’s zero tolerance for cultism and other forms of misconduct capable of disrupting campus peace.

In his remarks, the Director of Sports, Mr. Ekene, encouraged students to participate actively in sporting activities, noting that physical recreation plays a vital role in maintaining balance between academic responsibilities and overall wellbeing.
The orientation programme concluded with a renewed call for students to uphold discipline, pursue excellence, and embody the core values that define the university community.
