Governing council begins tour of facilities at college of medicine, LASUCOM will continue to be the best in Nigeria, chairman enthuses.

Members of the 12th Governing Council of Lagos State University, on Monday, 11th September 2023 began the periodic Tour of Campuses/Facilities of the University at the Ikeja Campus of the institution. 

The Council members, led by the Chairman, Sir. David Sunmoni, FCA, KJW, as well as the members of the University Management under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, visited the Ikeja Campus housing six faculties, to carry out a firsthand assessment of the facilities at the College reputed to be the best in the country. That status, according to Sir. Sunmoni, would be maintained for years to come.

While making his closing remarks at the end of the tour of facilities, the Council Chairman said, "From what I have seen during this tour, I have no doubt that LASUCOM will continue to be the best College of Medicine not only in Nigeria, but in the whole of West Africa and beyond."

Earlier on the Council's arrival, Sir. Sunmoni, while speaking at a brief reception organized by the College Management, said I am proud of what the College has achieved; the fact that LASU is the third most subscribed University in Nigeria and Medicine is the most subscribed course in LASU suggests that everyone recognizes LASUCOM as the very best. 

I am proud to not just be the Pro-Chancellor of LASU, but also of this creditable College."

He said the purpose of the visit was to assess the facilities of the campus in order to ensure continuous improvements. 

His address was preceded by that of the College Provost, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM. 

Prof. Adewuya in his welcome address, expressed the importance of the College to the University and the nation at large, affirming it as the most sought after College of Medicine in the country, while also intimating the Council members of the challenges it was facing. 

On her part, Prof. Olatunji-Bello, highlighted the University's effort at addressing the peculiar challenge of space being encountered by the College in view of the two newly established faculties of the College while soliciting for more support for the College. 

The Council later embarked on an extensive tour of the facilities including laboratories, the proposed site for the construction of the two new faculties- Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences- faculty building, Sports Complex and Hostel facilities with members of the Council visibly expressing their satisfaction at the state of the facilities.

The visit to campuses is expected to continue on Wednesday, 13th September 2023 with a tour of the main campus, Ojo.
