The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has reassured newly admitted students of the Open and Distance Learning and Research Institute (ODLRI) that they are an integral part of the LASU community. This assurance was given during the Matriculation and Orientation Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session, held on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, at the Moot Court, Faculty of Law, LASU main campus, Ojo.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo Afisi, Professor Olatunji-Bello emphasized LASU’s commitment to nurturing not just scholars but leaders, visionaries, and change-makers. She highlighted that the ODLRI initiative is a significant step in fulfilling the university’s mission by offering flexible learning opportunities to students irrespective of their geographical location.

Congratulating the newly admitted students, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged their decision to pursue academic excellence through the ODLRI model, which allows them to learn at their own pace while remaining part of a dynamic academic environment. She noted that while the programme offers flexibility, it also demands self-motivation, organization, and a proactive approach to academic responsibilities. The university, she assured, is dedicated to supporting students throughout their educational journey, recognizing the unique challenges associated with distance learning.

In a similar vein, the Deputy Registrar of the Counselling and Career Unit, Dr. Joseph Ayeni, represented by Mrs. Bisi Olaleye, congratulated the students and provided guidance on navigating potential challenges. She urged them to stay engaged with their lectures, interact with peers, maintain a structured study plan, and minimize distractions to achieve academic success.
