Gunmen Kidnap Ex-Ekiti Varsity Don Professor Olaofe, Demand N50m Ransom

On Tuesday, gunmen kidnapped Professor Femi Olaofe, a retired Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, from his residence in Ado-Ekiti. The abductors are demanding a N50 million ransom for his release.

 In a shocking incident, gunmen abducted Professor Femi Olaofe, a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), from his residence at Housing Estate, Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, on Tuesday. The kidnappers are demanding a N50 million ransom for his release.

Professor Olaofe, a renowned Professor of Industrial Chemistry, recently retired from EKSU. He hails from Are-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.

An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, reported that Professor Olaofe had returned from Lagos on Monday after visiting his children. "We saw him on Monday when he returned from his trip to Lagos. We greeted and exchanged pleasantries. His house is always quiet, as he lives a calm life. Anytime he drives out, he always waits to say hello," the eyewitness recounted.

The eyewitness continued, "On Tuesday, we noticed that the gate of his house was left open, which was unusual. We approached the gate intending to call the security man to shut it. When there was no response, we entered the living room and found the door wide open. We shouted for the Professor thrice but received no response. We then decided to check the compound but found no one. Suspicious, we reported the incident to the Divisional Police Station, Housing Estate."

The police swiftly responded, and it was later revealed that the kidnappers had entered Professor Olaofe's house, demanded the key to his car, and took him and his security man away in the vehicle.

The Are-Ekiti Development Association (ÀRÈDAA) has urged the Ekiti State Police Command to take all necessary actions to secure Professor Olaofe's release.
