The meeting, held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Council Chambers, marked the formal inauguration of the newly constituted Council. Dr. Igwe expressed deep appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for their support and the confidence reposed in the new Governing Council.
He commended members present for their dedication to advancing higher education, research, and societal development, noting that their expertise and shared vision would steer the university towards greater heights. Dr. Igwe emphasized that the Council’s decisions and strategic policies must align with IAUE’s mission of nurturing future leaders, fostering innovation, and addressing societal challenges.

Acknowledging the efforts of past administrations, the Pro-Chancellor urged the Council to sustain and build upon the existing legacy. In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, presented a brief history of the university, outlining its achievements and ongoing developmental needs. He appealed to the Council to facilitate ongoing projects, including the construction of classroom blocks, Senate building, office complexes, sports facilities, staff quarters, the Vice-Chancellor’s lodge, and power infrastructure, to enhance academic and administrative efficiency.
