The Kano State Government has issued a ban on the use of six textbooks in all Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools across the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state. This decision comes in response to concerns regarding inappropriate and sexually explicit content contained within these educational materials, which are deemed detrimental to the moral development of young students.

The Director of Planning Research and Statistics office of the Special Adviser on Private and Voluntary Institutions in Kano, Hamisu Ibrahim, officially revealed this directive in a statement, as reported by ThisDay. Private and voluntary school operators have been sternly cautioned against incorporating these banned textbooks into their curriculum.

"The Kano State Government wishes to notify operators of both private and voluntary schools in the state that the under-listed textbooks are prohibited for instruction and use in all Nursery, Primary, and Secondary Schools in the state, due to observed inclusion of inappropriate and sexually explicit content that is harmful to the morale of young students," stated Hamisu Ibrahim.

The list of the six prohibited textbooks identified by the government includes:

1. The Queen Premier (All Editions) - A royal school series published by Nelson Publisher company.

2. Basic Science for Junior Secondary School - 2018 edition by Razat Publishers for JSS3.

3. Active Basic Science - 2014 edition authored by Tola Anjorin, Okochuku Okolo, Philias Yara, Bamidele Mutiu, Farima Kaki, and Lydia Gbagu.

4. Basic Science and Technology for Junior Secondary School - Available for JSS1, JSS2, and JSS3, authored by W.K Hamzat and S. Bakare.

5. New Concept English for Junior Secondary School - Revised edition 2018 by J Eyisi, A Adekunle, T Adepolu, F Ademola Adeoye, Q Adams, and J Eto.

6. Basic Social Studies for Primary School - Authored by J Obebe, D M Muhammad, A N Nwosu, J A Adeyanju, and H Gabin.

The Kano State Government has taken this decisive action to ensure the protection and ethical development of its student population and to uphold the standards of education within the state. Private and voluntary school operators are expected to adhere to this ban and refrain from using these textbooks in their educational programs.
