Kaduna State University’s (KASU) Bursary Department has launched a two-day in-house training for bursary and internal audit staff for 2025.

The programme commenced on Monday, 6th January, at the University’s 500-Seater Pharmacy Hall.

The training, themed “Collaborative Learning: Pair Training and Knowledge Sharing,” was inaugurated by the Bursar, Hajiya Hauwa’u Dalhat, who emphasised that modern bursary work extends beyond fund disbursement to include continuous learning, teamwork, and effective knowledge sharing across the University.

In her goodwill message, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Strategy and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions to enhance their skills and performance. Similarly, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Yushau Ibrahim Ango, highlighted the importance of the training in broadening participants’ knowledge base and versatility, noting the Bursary Department’s critical role in the University’s operations.

University Librarian, Dr. Babangida Dan Gani, stressed the value of knowledge sharing for improved job performance and highlighted the collaborative relationship between the Library and the Bursary Department.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, commended the Bursary Department for its consistent performance over the past two years and lauded the resource persons for supporting the programme. He expressed confidence that the training would strengthen staff capacity in financial management and fraud prevention.

The keynote address, delivered by Barrister Sani Abubakar, former University Registrar, focused on “Understanding University Laws for Collaborative Excellence: Implications for Administration and Governance.” He outlined the objectives of University laws, the hierarchical structure of management, and the responsibilities of the University Council and Senate. Barrister Abubakar recommended establishing a consultative committee under the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s supervision to enhance governance.

Registrar Barrister Samira Balarabe urged staff to maintain discipline, adhere to official working hours, and familiarise themselves with University handbooks. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, noted that the training would significantly boost departmental productivity.

Dr. Mujitaba Abubakar Sani delivered a session on “Word Choice and Precision in Official Communication,” stressing the importance of accurate word selection to prevent misinterpretation. He highlighted common communication pitfalls, including vagueness, redundancy, and ambiguity, while demonstrating techniques for precision in administrative writing.

The training continues with interactive sessions aimed at enhancing collaboration, professionalism, and efficiency among KASU bursary and internal audit staff.
