KWASU Condemns Student Protest Over Exam Venue Change

The management of Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete has strongly condemned a recent protest by students at its Study Centre, the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS). The university characterized the protest as unjustified and instigated by "mischief-makers" intent on undermining the integrity of the upcoming examinations.

In an official statement from the Registrar, Dr. Kikeloma Sallee, the university dismissed claims from CAILS that it was not consulted about the change of the examination venue as baseless. Dr. Sallee emphasized that KWASU operates two external locations for its Sandwich Degree Programme, namely CAILS and Imam Hamzat College of Education, which serve merely as study centers under the university's administration.

“The public must understand that students at CAILS are governed by KWASU’s standards. Therefore, we are not obliged to seek CAILS's authorization for decisions affecting our students,” the statement clarified.

The decision to centralize the examination venue at the KWASU Conference Centre, located behind Ayoka Petrol Station along Old Jebba Road in Ilorin, aims to maintain the sanctity of the examination process. This decision was communicated during an orientation session on October 2, 2024, countering claims from CAILS that the announcement was made only three days prior to the exams.
