On September 16, 2024, the Lagos State University (LASU) Career Development Centre (LCDC) teamed up with the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) for the 'Africa Master's Tour Lagos' at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

On Monday, 16th September 2024, the Lagos State University (LASU) Career Development Centre (LCDC) collaborated with the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) to host the 'Africa Master's Tour Lagos'. This event, held at the J. F. Ade Ajayi Hall, University of Lagos (UNILAG), was designed to educate students from LASU’s Faculties of Management Sciences and Social Sciences, as well as their peers from UNILAG, about the processes involved in gaining admission and securing scholarships for European Master's Business Schools.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. David Adediran, GMAC’s Business Development Manager for the Middle East and Africa, who highlighted the organisation’s dedication to preparing students for a competitive global job market. The programme featured several informative panel sessions aimed at demystifying the process of applying for and funding a Master's degree in Europe.

The first panel addressed funding options for business master’s degrees, including available scholarships and loans. Following this, representatives from prestigious institutions such as ESMT Berlin (Germany), IE University (Spain), and London Business School (UK) provided insights into various Business Masters programmes, application requirements, and the intricacies of the application process, including academic qualifications, personal statements, and letters of recommendation.

A subsequent session focused on admissions criteria, with panelists from Bayes Business School (UK), Bocconi University (Italy), and the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) sharing strategies for demonstrating suitability through application essays, personal statements, and resumes. They also discussed key elements that admissions officers consider during interviews.

Further sessions offered guidance on maximizing the benefits of business master’s programmes, with input from representatives of BI Norwegian Business School (Norway), ESSEC Business School (France), Imperial College Business School (UK), and UCD Smurfit School (Ireland). The discussion included leveraging career services, internships, student clubs, networking, and experiential learning to boost career prospects. Additionally, the visa application process and timing were covered by experts from the British Council, the Italian Embassy, and CampusFrance, while the GMAT team offered valuable insights into examination preparation.

The event was well-attended by LASU Career Development Centre members, including Director Prof. Stella T. Durowoju, Deputy Registrar of the Student Affairs Division, Mr. AbdulAhmeed Lawal, and Rehanat O. Mogaji from the Centre for Information and Public Relations.

The programme concluded with photo sessions, networking opportunities, and refreshments, leaving attendees well-equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the scholarship landscape for studying in Europe.
