Redeemer’s University Strategizes to Enhance Global Ranking Through High-Impact Research

The Vice-Chancellor, Redeemer's University, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, ffan, fffps, has emphasised the importance of publishing in index journals, saying that it should no longer be seen as a personal academic milestone, but a strategic institutional imperative that showcases global visibility and ranking of universities among their peers.

He made this statement during a one-day workshop titled “Publishing in Scopus and Web of Science Demystified,” hosted by the Directorate of Research and Innovation Management (DRIM) of Redeemer’s University on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

He noted that publishing in indexed journals “is no longer just a personal academic milestone; it is a strategic institutional imperative. It affects Redeemer’s University’s global visibility and ranking, our capacity to attract international collaborations and grants, our ability to influence policy, industry, and society, and ultimately, our fulfilment of the university’s mandate of teaching, research, and community impact.

“We must also acknowledge that many academics—especially early-career researchers—often perceive Scopus and Web of Science publications as opaque, intimidating, or inaccessible. Terms such as impact factor, quartiles, predatory journals, rejection cycles, reviewer expectations, and editorial standards can seem overwhelming. This workshop is designed to demystify these processes, replace fear with clarity, and transform uncertainty into informed strategy.”

Facilitators included Professor Olalere Adeyemi, who spoke on the topic, “Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Publishing in Scopus and Web of Science Demystified,” and Professor Uchechukwu Vincent, who delivered the topic, “Supervisor vs Supervisee/Academic Mentorship: A Nexus for Publishing in Scopus and Web of Science.”
