LASU Conducts 2025/2026 Orientation Programme for Newly Admitted Undergraduates

The Students’ Affairs Division of Lagos State University (LASU) successfully hosted a two-day Orientation Programme for newly admitted full-time and direct entry (200-level) students of the 2025/2026 academic session, held on Monday, 17th and Tuesday, 18th November 2025 at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The Students’ Affairs Division of Lagos State University (LASU) successfully hosted a two-day Orientation Programme for newly admitted full-time and direct entry (200-level) students of the 2025/2026 academic session, held on Monday, 17th and Tuesday, 18th November 2025 at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

The programme aimed to equip new students with essential information, guidance, and practical advice to ensure a smooth transition into university life.

In her welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, congratulated the students for emerging successful from a pool of over 70,000 applicants, highlighting that the orientation was deliberately structured to foster academic success throughout their university journey. She reaffirmed LASU's standing as Nigeria’s best state university and the top in West Africa, according to the 2023 University of Indonesia GreenMetric Global Ranking, and assured students of a conducive and uninterrupted learning environment maintained consistently over the past four academic sessions.

On the topic of conduct and discipline, Professor Olatunji-Bello emphasised LASU’s zero-tolerance policy for antisocial behaviour, noting:
"There is no room for cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing, extortion, aggressive behaviour of any kind, sexual harassment, assault or other negative vices. Any student found guilty of disrupting the normal academic activities of this university will face consequences in line with university guidelines."

She urged students to uphold high standards of character and learning throughout their time at LASU.

In his opening remarks, Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, offered key advice for academic success, stressing the importance of:

  • Prioritising studies and maintaining a strong CGPA from the outset
  • Choosing friends wisely and avoiding harmful associations
  • Managing time effectively to balance freedom and responsibility
  • Spending pocket money responsibly
  • Seeking help whenever in doubt or facing challenges

He also encouraged students to access and read the Student Handbook available on the University website.

Day One featured lectures from key university officials, including:

  • Mr Emmanuel Sosu-Olaitan, representative of the University Bursar, on “Financial Matters: Fees, Awards, and Scholarships”
  • Mr Wakeel Ogungbo, representative of the University Librarian, on “Cultivating Good Reading Habits in the University”
  • Mr Kabiru Okugbesan, Deputy Registrar, Admissions Office, on “Navigating Through the Admission Process”
  • Dr Nasir O. Ariyibi, Director of Health Services, on “Taking Charge of Your Personal Hygiene and Environmental Health”
  • Dr Joseph Ayeni, Deputy Registrar and Head of the Counselling Unit, on “A Guide Towards Planning Never to Fail and Peer Influence”
  • Dr Rilwan Mustapha, representative of the Directorate of ICT, on “Navigating ICT Services in LASU: A Do-It-Yourself Approach”
  • Motivational speaker Mr Olumide, who encouraged students to eliminate distractions and seek mentorship

Day Two continued with informative sessions including:

  • Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, on “University Guidelines on Students’ Conduct”
  • Prof. Igot Ofem, Acting Director, CRPSGBV, on “Prevention of Gender-Based Violence in the University”
  • Mrs Olajumoke Boyejo, Director, Legal Affairs, on “Your Rights and Limitations in the University”
  • Mr Julius Nunayon, representing the Deputy Registrar, Exams and Records, on “Types, Uses, and Management of Academic Records”
  • Mr Idowu Owoyemi, Deputy Director, Sports and Recreation, on “Sporting Activities and Facilities in the University”
  • CSP Oluwole Ojo (Rtd.), Chief Security Coordinator, on “Security Measures and Precautions against Violence/Cultism”

Students actively participated in Q&A sessions, gaining clarity on admission, course registration, and other academic matters. Games and quizzes added excitement, with cash prizes awarded by LASUSU and Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan.

Other members of the University Management in attendance included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin; Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu; University Librarian, Dr Omawunmi Makinde, among others.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr Abdulhameed Lawal, Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, reaffirming LASU’s commitment to holistic student development, academic excellence, and sound character formation.
