The Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) Counselling Unit, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, organized a transformative program on “Emotional Self-Awareness and Peer Mentorship Pairing” on Tuesday, 24th February 2026.

The Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) Counselling Unit, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, organized a transformative program on “Emotional Self-Awareness and Peer Mentorship Pairing” on Tuesday, 24th February 2026.

The event aimed to equip students with the skills to manage their emotions and build healthy, growth-oriented relationships.

The program opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Terna Paise Agba, who highlighted the critical role of emotional intelligence in both academic achievement and personal development. He encouraged students to actively engage with their feelings and use emotional awareness as a tool for resilience and success.

The session drew participation from faculty leadership, Heads of Departments, staff, and students, creating a collaborative learning environment. Three keynote presentations were delivered by members of the Counselling Unit:

Mr. Edward S. Ozokede, Acting Director of the Counselling Unit, explored Emotional Self-Awareness, explaining the difference between primary and secondary emotions and emphasizing that emotions are a source of strength rather than weakness. He stressed that understanding one’s emotions builds resilience and self-confidence.

Miss Gloria Enwemuche addressed Peer Mentorship Pairing, urging students to seek mentors who positively influence their growth while remaining mindful of setting boundaries. She highlighted the value of discernment in choosing peers and mentors who support personal and academic development.

Miss Patience Obidike spoke on Negative Peer Mentorship, warning against influences from unsafe or misaligned environments. She encouraged students to cultivate emotional intelligence and diversify their sources of guidance rather than relying solely on a single individual.

The program concluded with a closing remark from Mr. Ozokede, expressing gratitude to the Dean, staff, and students for their active engagement. The initiative provided participants with practical tools to better understand themselves, navigate interpersonal relationships, and foster environments conducive to personal growth and academic excellence.
