In commemoration of the 2023 International Day of Education, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken significant steps to support education in Rivers State. The commission distributed learning and teaching materials to secondary and primary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Among the notable initiatives, the NDDC announced the purchase of 30 JAMB forms and five scholarships for top JAMB scorers at Community Secondary School (CSS) Kaani, Community Secondary School (CSS) Rumuapara, and 50 JAMB forms for students of Western Ahoada County High School.

Additionally, Mr. Tony Okocha, the caretaker committee chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, visited his alma mater, the University of Port Harcourt, Choba, and donated copies of his book on the political experience of Rivers State.

Speaking to journalists during the distribution of materials, Mr. Okocha highlighted the importance of education in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope vision, emphasizing that education is essential for societal development and progress.

In a separate engagement, Mr. Okocha paid a courtesy visit to local community leaders, emphasizing the significance of the United Nations' International Day of Education and its alignment with President Tinubu's administration's vision.

The distribution of learning materials and scholarships by the NDDC underscores the commitment of government agencies and stakeholders to promoting education and empowering students in Rivers State, ultimately contributing to the development of the region.
