NELFUND Managing Director Visits FULOKOJA, Sensitizes Students on Loan Application Process
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, on Wednesday received the Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, and his team, during a courtesy visit to the University.
The purpose of the visit was to deepen collaboration and ensure the smooth implementation of the Federal Government’s student loan programme across tertiary institutions.
During the high-level engagement, Professor Akinwumi held strategic discussions with the NELFUND Managing Director, addressing previous institutional challenges and seeking clarity on key aspects of the loan scheme. He urged students to take full advantage of the presence of the NELFUND officials to gain accurate, firsthand information that would help them benefit from the initiative.
Mr. Sawyerr, who led a delegation that included legal, technical, and administrative officers, explained the objectives of the loan scheme and its relevance to national development. He emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education. “In the vision of Mr. President, no child should be deprived of higher education due to lack of funds. This loan scheme was created to make higher education accessible to every eligible Nigerian,” he said.
He explained that the application process is entirely digital, requiring essential identifiers such as a student’s matriculation number and National Identification Number (NIN). Once submitted, applications will undergo verification in partnership with the student’s institution. “There is no need to visit any of our offices physically. The process is simple, seamless, and student-centered,” Mr. Sawyerr added.
