NIQS hails Unilorin graduates’ brilliant performance in professional exams
The President of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), QS. Kene Christopher Nzekwe, has lauded the University of Ilorin for its exemplary Quantity Surveying programme, noting that graduates of the University have consistently achieved a 100% pass rate in the NIQS professional exams.
This commendation was made by QS Nzekwe during a visit to the Vice Chancellor in his office penultimate Thursday (May 30, 2024).

While conveying the institute’s appreciation for the university’s commitment to excellence in Quantity Surveying education, the NIQS President, who was represented by the Head of the Department of Quantity Surveying, University of Ilorin, QS T. O. O. Olowa, said the continuous success of Unilorin graduates in the Institute’s professional examinations is a testament to the high standards maintained by Unilorin’s Quantity Surveying Department as it reflects the dedication and quality of the lecturers and the University management.
While noting the significant contributions of University staff to the NIQS, Nzekwe said it is obvious that Unilorin is contributing well to the Institute because the NIQS has been having a retinue of chairmen emerging from the university. According to him, “We have had QS Toyin Jimoh as a chairman, succeeded by Prof. Amuda Yusuf, then myself, and currently another staff member holds the position. Additionally, the Deputy Chairman, QS Olowa, is the chairman-elect for the next Senate. This succession of leadership underscores the exceptional training provided by Unilorin”.

The NIQS President also stressed the importance of ongoing support from the University as he appealed to the University management to continue addressing issues affecting the NIQS, adding that the consistent success of Unilorin graduates is a direct result of the institution’s supportive environment.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, assured the NIQS of the University’s unwavering commitment to partnering with the institute to enhance the professional capacity of its members.
Expressing gratitude for NIQS’s recognition of the University’s contributions, the Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to supporting the professional training of Quantity Surveying students. He said, “Be assured that we will continue to work closely with you’rE the to ensure that the professional training of our students is developed appropriately. We will support our Department of Quantity Surveying in all ramifications to ensure they deliver on their mandate.”
Prof. Egbewole encouraged the Quantity Surveying Department to explore opportunities for professional contributions that could enhance the University’s revenue. He said, “I charge the Department to start looking at professional offerings that could contribute to the University’s revenue drive. Globally, the trend is for professionals to find ways to support their institutions. Quantity Surveyors have a place in Unilorin Holdings Limited to help improve our revenue generation”.
The Vice Chancellor further stated that “given the state of affairs in Nigeria and globally, we cannot rely solely on government funding for the University. Private initiatives are essential, and Unilorin Holdings was established with this in mind. I believe that partnering with this company can ensure that our activities are improved upon”.
He said that the choice of QS Toyin Jimoh as the Director of the Physical Planning Unit was not an accident, but a divine appointment because he has paid his dues to the University and to NIQS.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Kwara State Chapter, QS Ranti T. Adebiyi, recognised the efforts of the University in fostering a conducive environment for the advancement of Quantity Surveying. She said, “We must appreciate your support to the growth and development of Quantity Surveying in the country. It is only when members of the profession are growing that we can be said to be growing as a whole,” she remarked.
QS Adebiyi also celebrated the historic appointment of QS Toyin Jimoh as the Director of the Physical Planning Unit (PPU) at the University of Ilorin, saying that “QS Jimoh’s appointment marks the first time a Quantity Surveyor would be occupying this position at the University. We believe his dedication, commitment, and years of experience fetched him this appointment. QS Jimoh is not just a past Chairman of the Institute but a pillar of the profession and a valuable national asset. We are confident that he will make the University proud.”
