NOUN Correctional Centre Sensitizes NICOWA School Community on Benefits of Distance Education

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Special Study Centre for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), National Headquarters, Abuja, has embarked on an advocacy visit to the Nigerian Correctional Officers’ Wives Association (NICOWA) School to promote awareness of the benefits of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Special Study Centre for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), National Headquarters, Abuja, has embarked on an advocacy visit to the Nigerian Correctional Officers’ Wives Association (NICOWA) School to promote awareness of the benefits of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).

The sensitization exercise, held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, aimed to enlighten the NICOWA community on the flexible and inclusive learning opportunities available through NOUN’s ODL system.

Speaking during the event, the Centre Director, Controller Francis Enobore (Rtd), described the visit as part of NOUN’s drive to make education accessible to all, regardless of age, location, or occupation.

He explained that the Open and Distance Learning system offers a model that allows individuals to learn at their own pace while balancing academic, personal, and professional responsibilities.

“Education should never be limited by age, distance, or occupation,” Enobore stated. “At NOUN, we believe everyone deserves a chance to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society.”

He emphasized that NOUN remains committed to providing flexible, affordable, and accessible education across Nigeria, particularly for communities with unique circumstances such as the Correctional Service and its dependents.

The Director also highlighted the University’s success in empowering thousands of learners nationwide, including inmates, officers, and their families, through distance education.
