NOUN VC Encourages Staff to Enhance Communication Skills at 3-Day Workshop

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has urged the university's Administrative, Higher Executive, and Executive Officers to maximize their training to enhance their communication skills. This statement was made on Monday, September 9, 2024, during the opening of a three-day workshop on "Communication and Report Writing Skills" at the university's headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Isaac Sammani Butswat, Peters emphasized the significance of both verbal and written communication. He noted that written communication is particularly critical, as it is subject to scrutiny and errors can be easily identified. "Take this training seriously, especially in your report writing," he urged participants.

Peters highlighted the university's commitment to ongoing training and retraining in line with its vision and mission. He encouraged staff to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) effectively, stating that it should enhance their capabilities rather than promote complacency.

Registrar Mr. Oladipo Ajayi praised the Vice-Chancellor for his leadership and for prioritizing staff training. He stressed that the aim of the workshop is to improve operational efficiency within the university.

The Acting Director of Staff Training and Development, Mrs. Eunice Riki, represented by Principal Assistant Registrar Mabel Madu, also expressed gratitude for the management's support in facilitating regular training sessions.

The workshop, facilitated by experienced Public Relations practitioners from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), covered various topics, including new trends in communication, public speaking skills, digital communication, interpersonal communication, advanced report writing, and crisis communication best practices. 

A highlight of the event was a book presentation by Dr. Peter Oyeneye to Mabel Madu in recognition of her contributions. Dr. Oyeneye also presented books to two participants, Mr. Christian Ojoma Samson and Inkus Blessing Amali, for their engagement during the workshop.
