An alumnus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) and Industrial & Organizational Psychology scholar, John Simon, has inspired students of the NSUK Demonstration Secondary School through his youth-driven initiative, The Big Talk with John Simon, during the “School No Be Scam” outreach held on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The interactive event, themed around reawakening faith in education, encouraged students to see schooling as a powerful tool for self-discovery, purpose, and empowerment rather than a mere pursuit of certificates. John Simon and his team engaged the students in motivational talks, storytelling, and hands-on activities designed to challenge negative perceptions about the educational system.
According to Simon, the project stemmed from a growing need to address the disillusionment many young people feel toward formal education. “We want students to understand that school is not a scam—it’s a platform to discover themselves, build discipline, and prepare for leadership,” he said.

The session received glowing feedback from both teachers and students, who described it as “transformative” and “energizing.” Several students shared how the outreach rekindled their motivation and reshaped their understanding of the purpose of schooling.
Founded in 2019, The Big Talk with John Simon has spearheaded several youth development programmes in partnership with NSUK, including SUG election debates and leadership-focused initiatives between 2021 and 2024.
In his closing remarks, John Simon thanked the University Management and the Demonstration School leadership for their continuous support, pledging to strengthen collaboration in advancing education, leadership, and youth empowerment.
The event further underscores NSUK’s reputation for producing graduates who not only excel academically but also contribute meaningfully to their communities through impactful initiatives.
