The Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has delivered a lecture titled “Inspiring to Empower the Girl Child”, praising the administration of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for its sustained efforts in promoting women and girl-child empowerment across the State.

The lecture, delivered over the weekend, was part of an event organized by the United Nasarawa State Women for Sustainable Development, which recognized trailblazing women for their contributions to the State’s socio-economic growth.
Professor Liman described the theme as timely and central to sustainable development, stressing that inspiring the girl child requires creating an enabling environment that nurtures confidence, ambition, and equal opportunities for growth and leadership.
She highlighted Nasarawa State’s achievements in addressing challenges affecting the girl child, particularly in education, health, and social inclusion. The domestication of the State Action Plan (SAP), based on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, has strengthened programmes aimed at meeting both immediate and long-term needs of women and children.

Professor Liman credited the First Lady of Nasarawa State, Her Excellency Hajiya Salifat Abdullahi Sule, for her advocacy and commitment to policies promoting the welfare and advancement of the girl child. She outlined strategies for empowerment including access to quality education, mentorship, protection against abuse and discrimination, economic empowerment, encouragement of self-expression, recognition of effort, and participation in confidence-building and leadership activities.
She emphasized that empowering the girl child is critical to national development, noting that educated and empowered girls contribute to economic growth, improved health outcomes, and social transformation.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Nasarawa State Government for appointing women to strategic leadership roles, including Permanent Secretaries, Commissioners, Chief Judge, Head of Civil Service, and Director-General of the Human Capital Development Agency, as well as the appointment of Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as Honourable Minister of Women Affairs. She further noted that NSUK itself is led by a woman Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Liman highlighted NSUK’s commitment to girl-child empowerment through equal access to academic programmes, promotion of deserving female staff, and the appointment of women into leadership positions across academic and administrative units of the University.
She concluded by asserting that empowering the girl child is both a moral responsibility and a strategic investment in the nation’s future.
