The National Universities Commission (NUC), responsible for overseeing universities in Nigeria, has granted approval for the introduction of seven new academic programs at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. These programs will be implemented starting from the 2023/2024 academic session.

In an official memorandum dated November 6, 2023, addressed to the university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Elom, and signed by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei (with reference number NUC/AP/F01/VOL.111/67), the Commission conveyed its approval. The memo states, "I am pleased to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Ag. Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the following undergraduate programs to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from the 2023/2024 academic session."

The newly approved programs include:

1. B.Sc. Public Administration

2. B.ML.S Medical Laboratory Science

3. B.NSc. Nursing Science

4. B.Sc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics

Expressing satisfaction with the NUC's approval, Prof. Elom emphasized that it fulfills a commitment made during his assumption of office as Vice-Chancellor. He pledged to maintain, consolidate, and expand on the achievements of previous administrations, ensuring a culture of academic excellence and integrity. Prof. Elom sees these new programs as an opportunity to provide practical-oriented education to Nigerian youths, with plans for additional programs before the end of his tenure.

It is worth noting that the National Universities Commission had conducted a resource verification visit to the university in September 2023, deploying expert panels to assess the human and material resources available for the establishment of the approved programs.
