Nwifuru Eases NECO and WAEC Fee Burdens for Students Amid Hike

In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians, the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Honourable Francis Nwifuru, has directed the Commissioner for Education in the State to compile lists of students in public schools slated to write the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) across the 13 local government areas of the state.

In a bid to alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians, the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Honourable Francis Nwifuru, has directed the Commissioner for Education in the State to compile lists of students in public schools slated to write the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO) across the 13 local government areas of the state.

Governor Nwifuru's directive comes in response to the recent increase in registration fees for both NECO and WAEC exams. The Governor expressed concern over the hike, noting that the fees have surged from 18,000 Naira to approximately 34,000 Naira, placing significant strain on families.

"I have directed the State Commissioner for Education to calculate the number of students who are registering for the examinations in public schools so that we can look at it because it is our duty to serve the people. If we can’t pay all, we can pay at least 50%," Governor Nwifuru affirmed.
