OAU SUG Reminds Students of Constitutional Provisions Guiding Social Activities

The Director of Socials and Culture of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students’ Union has issued a reminder to the Great Ife community on the constitutional provisions regulating social activities within the university.

According to Section 31(1) of the Union’s Constitution, “the Director of Socials and Culture shall be responsible for all social activities of the Union.” Furthermore, Section 14(1) clarifies that this responsibility extends to all matriculated students who have paid their Union dues, honorary life members, and patrons.

In line with this, the Union emphasized that no social event within OAU shall hold without the prior knowledge and approval of the Director of Socials and Culture. This measure, the Union noted, is crucial for maintaining proper coordination, ensuring accountability, and safeguarding the security and welfare of all students during such events.

Faculties, departments, and student organizations are therefore required to formally notify and seek approval from the office of the Director of Socials and Culture before hosting any social programme or gathering on campus.

The Union reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a vibrant, safe, and well-coordinated social environment where creativity and student engagement can thrive under structured supervision.

“Together, let us uphold the constitution and preserve the integrity of our community,” the statement concluded.
