PLANE Program Initiates Distribution of Over 170,000 Textbooks to Enhance Education in Kaduna State
Mr Salim Sadiq, Technical Adviser, Teaching and Learning, PLANE Kaduna, explained during the commencement of the exercise in Kaduna, that the books comprise of literacy, mathematics, and teacher guide.
In a significant move to enhance the quality of education in Kaduna State, the Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) program has launched the distribution of 170,976 textbooks to 694 public primary schools across six Local Government Areas (LGAs).
In collaboration with the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and the State Basic Education Board (SUBEB), this initiative aims to improve the overall learning outcomes in primary schools within the state.
Mr. Salim Sadiq, the Technical Adviser for Teaching and Learning at PLANE Kaduna, shed light on the endeavor during its inauguration in Kaduna. He highlighted that the distributed books encompassed subjects such as literacy, mathematics, and teacher guides.

Conforming to the national education policy, these textbooks are published in the Hausa language. The allocation includes 13,512 copies each of primary 1 literacy and mathematics books, along with 11,012 copies each of primary 2 mathematics and literacy books. Furthermore, a substantial 59,477 copies each of primary 3 literacy and mathematics books will be provided, along with 1,487 copies each of primary 3 literacy and mathematics teacher guides.
Sadiq emphasized that these textbooks would be distributed across six LGAs: Soba, Sabon Gari, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Jaba, and Sanga. The distribution plan involves providing 694 cartons of books to the schools, with varying quantities for each LGA. Jaba will receive 100 cartons, Kaduna North 44, Kaduna South 36, Sabon Gari 61, Sanga 190, and Soba 263.
Moreover, each carton of textbooks features a QR code, enabling the tracking of every carton's movement from the point of loading to delivery. This measure has been implemented to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the distribution process.
Sadiq expressed that the initiative's primary goal is to support the Kaduna State Government in establishing a strong foundation for primary school students. By providing these textbooks, the program aims to ensure the delivery of high-quality education, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes.
The Commissioner of Education, Prof. Muhmmed Bello, who launched the distribution, extended his gratitude to PLANE for their support in delivering teaching and learning materials in the predominant Hausa language of the state. He emphasized that this measure would help reduce learning disparities in the state, underlining the significance of establishing a solid educational foundation for children.
The PLANE program, supported by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, is dedicated to enhancing the educational system in Nigeria by focusing on inclusive and effective education. The ultimate goal is to improve learning outcomes for pre-primary and primary school students.
