Prof Andrew A. Nkom Delivers 48th Inaugural Lecture at Nasarawa State University
On December 4, 2024, Professor Andrew A. Nkom of the Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, delivered the University's 48th Inaugural Lecture. Titled "The Fourth Type of Communication: Breaking the Deterioration Cycle in Nigerian Education," the lecture focused on innovative solutions for improving education quality in Nigeria.
Professor Nkom introduced the Instructional Communication Concept Model and its application in the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) program, emphasizing the importance of professionalizing teaching to combat Nigeria's educational challenges.
Key points included:
- Addressing poor teaching quality and the degenerative trend in education characterized by high failure rates.
- Expanding the PDE program, validated by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), to encompass all levels of teacher training.
- Advocating for reflective and problem-solving approaches to improve educational outcomes.
The lecture was attended by dignitaries such as former Kaduna State College of Education Provost Ishaya Akau and Professor Ayuba Guga of ABU Zaria. The Vice-Chancellor, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Theophilus Daniel Lagi, commended Nkom’s contributions to education reform.
The event concluded with a plaque presentation to honor Professor Nkom’s achievements.
