Professor Abdullateef Usman, a former Acting Vice-Chancellor and esteemed Economics professor, delivered Fountain University’s 4th inaugural lecture titled "From Honeypot to Tinderbox: The Trajectory of Nigeria’s Most Valuable Asset." Under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, Professor Usman emphasized the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s labour laws to secure workers' rights and sustain economic growth.
In his address, Professor Usman discussed the impact of the newly implemented N70,000 minimum wage, while underscoring the need for comprehensive labour policies, social security systems, and fair wage practices to reduce industrial unrest and enhance productivity. “Effective labour policies are vital for maintaining industrial harmony,” he stated.
Professor Usman also urged for economic diversification beyond oil to unlock Nigeria’s full potential. Held at the Amina Namadi Sambo Multipurpose Hall, the lecture attracted academics, dignitaries, and members of the public, highlighting Fountain University’s dedication to impactful discourse and community engagement.
