Traditionalist Urges Government to Include Traditional Religion in School Curriculum

Dr. Fayemi Fakayode, a traditionalist, has advocated for the inclusion of Traditional Religious Knowledge in the school curriculum. He emphasized the importance of teaching Yoruba culture and tradition to the younger generation through this subject.
Speaking at the installation ceremony of two Brazilians as honorary titles in Ijọ Imole Olodumare Agbaye, Fakayode stressed the necessity of combating misinformation about Yoruba history and tradition. He noted that the lack of education about African heritage often leads to misconceptions about traditional religions.

Fakayode, who serves as the secretary of the Traditional Religion Worshippers’ Association (TRWA) in Oyo State and is the founder of Olodumare’s Temple of Light International, urged both state and federal governments to introduce Traditional Religious Knowledge as a subject in primary and secondary schools. He cited the inclusion of Islamic Religious Knowledge and Christian Religious Knowledge as precedents for this proposal.
