A tragic accident involving a speeding bus caused a deadly crash at Maduka University in Enugu State, Nigeria, claiming the lives of 16 people and seriously injuring two others. The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred on the evening of 30th April 2024, at Ekwegbe along the Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road, when the bus, carrying 18 passengers, crashed into the fence of Maduka University and burst into flames.

According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the public relations officer for the Enugu State Police, the bus, identified as an 18-seater white Toyota Hummer with a Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA, lost control while driving at high speed and crashed into the university's fence, resulting in a fiery explosion. The blaze quickly engulfed the bus, leading to the tragic deaths of 14 males and 2 females, who were burnt beyond recognition.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, 16 passengers were pronounced dead at the hospital, while two survivors were rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment. The police have not yet identified the deceased, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident and the identities of the victims.
